Requirement

Introduction: –

The purpose of the assignment was to build a website for a client website and document the process. The building of the website was to choose from one of the clients listed below:

  • Tim Loftus Boat Building
  • UWE- digitalmedia.com
  • Invasive Plants Forum

So as I have already talked (Tim Loftus page) about the client that I chose to build/redesign is the “Tim Loftus Boat Building”. The reason why I chose this client website to work was also stated, that I like to travel in boats and I enjoy the view of the sea, as well as the other reason was the layout of the website was not consistent, thus making me uncomfortable.(This was just a reminder). Basically this page is about the clients brief on the website he wants to have or build. I was given in a sheet of paper the requirement that he wanted so I have just added the similar words that was written in the paper over here below.

Summary (Tim Loftus Boat Building):-

Tim Loftus Boat building is a small wooden boat building business that comprises of 1-7 people. The Tim Loftus Boat Building has 16 years of history in building traditional high quality boats. Thus the company only builds one-two boats (big boats with ) a year, which also brings a client/builder’s relationship that is long or close.

The Tim Loftus Boat building company believes in the process of commissioning and being involved in the building of traditional wooden boat. They do not or rarely compete with fibre glass or steel on price, so basically the Tim Loftus boat building company want to  display the sense of beautiful craftsmanship and involvement that is what the company is trying to sell. Other than that the boats are very beautiful and long-lived with tactile quality, which no other material can touch

Requirement (Main aim/Purpose):-

The main aim or purpose for me was to fulfil the requirement stated by the clients they are:

  1. To provide a brochure for the services. (Their annual marketing budget is very low).
  2. Provide a means for accessing overseas market.
  3. To alert/show first time buyer the virtues of traditional craft.
  4. Link with the sign board at the boatyard.
  5. Allow to post new items as a new build-in progresses. (For e.g update page).

The client also mentioned  things like the previous website was good but it was hacked by someone so the client also has stated some personal things like:

  • The website should look clean but not so minimalist that they display ‘cold’ type of look. As the client’s company is trying to sell the warmth of the wood and the quiet simplicity of the bygone era.
  • Should have the same format i.e Flat brochure pages, with new pages that the client can easily update.

The client’s also mentioned about some competitors websites like:

From Interview:-

  • To allow the client to update news on the clients latest works. (Once a month)
  • The client wants the website to have a friendly and local style.
  • To help the client expand his business. (At the moment its by word from mouth)
  • Help him deal with fishermen which was his preference (user group)

So after looking at the requirements as well the things from the interview, I will try to make a website that will be simple and clean but not to the minimalist and also focus on trying to make the website have the same format. I will follow the requirement specified by my client. So that the client is happy and satisfied with website that I have design.
